One of the questions we’re occasionally asked is why a custom project sometimes takes longer than expected. The answer often has very little to do with fabrication itself.
Long before a piece reaches the welding table or wood shop, there’s an entire process unfolding behind the scenes—reviewing drawings, confirming dimensions, sourcing materials, and carefully inspecting every delivery that arrives at our studio. These early decisions shape everything that follows.
Every Material Tells a Story
Recently, we received an order of steel flat bar that we use on many different projects. At first glance, it looked perfectly acceptable. In fact, for many industrial applications, it probably would have been.
But our standards are different.
As we inspected the material, we found subtle inconsistencies. The bars weren’t as flat as they should have been, so we requested replacement material before moving forward.
That meant waiting.To us, that isn’t a setback. It’s part of the process.
